Pamir Studio is a vision & design studio based in Sydney, Australia.
We create Wayfinding, Interpretive Design, Exhibition, Augmented Reality and Interactive journeys that inspire and delight.
Your project has the opportunity to create an awe-inducing and meaningful experience for a visitor, and we’re here to find that spark and realise your vision.
We begin by diving deep into the details of your project. We want to get to know it inside out, upside down, and back to front. Through our rigorous consultation process, we’ll listen to you and understand your hopes and your concerns. We recognise that clients have often been thinking about their project for a long time and have invaluable insights that will guide a project’s ethos, so we aim to extract this intel and apply it to the process for a holistic and inclusive outcome.
We’re big believers that the big picture and the nitty-gritty details of your project are equally important. A shrewd practical understanding underlies all of our thinking from conceptualisation through to documentation. We visit manufacturers and artisans so we can discuss the exact process they’ll be using — from traditional timber and metal techniques to modern laser cutters and six-axis routers — to ensure the best outcome for your project; both aesthetically and functionally. These principles also apply to creative technology, where we have a detailed knowledge of software and processes.
Our extensive experience in the world of design coupled with our practical understanding is the springboard for new ideas. A robust understanding of what’s feasible and the huge possibility space of every project makes us ambitious. Combined with your audacious vision, we’re guaranteed to make something memorable.
The project process is integral to achieving your vision. Years ago, our founder was inspired by an architect they knew, who, in building a retreat in a remote village, took the old tiles from local houses to roof the retreat building and hired local craftspeople to create new tiles for the village houses. His work got the benefit of the exquisitely aged, patina tiles; while the village got newly repaired roofs that would, over time, patina again. That’s the kind of win-win, local-oriented, enriching process we strive to recreate with every project we undertake.
The ability to envision a project from a brief requires the skill to imagine new possibilities and the nous to bring it to fruition. Years of practical experience across a swathe of diverse projects has given us the foresight to prepare for challenges and the confidence to push the bounds. A vision must reflect the nature of the project, in its aesthetics and experiential qualities and also in its execution: we take advantage of new technologies, current practices, and heritage techniques to create exemplary outcomes.
Originality is inherent in the design process — even when working with off-the-shelf components — because we focus on what makes the project unique and bring those attributes to the fore.
Our approach to storytelling involves understanding all the material around a project in depth, and synthesising its details and core ideas into evocative themes. We interlace concepts and facts to create an experiential journey, even within a single image — evoking curiosity and revelation.
Interpreting historical or contemporary stories in an engaging way requires respect for different types of visitors. Some may devour text and detail, others are drawn to imagery, others by significant objects, and some may intuit a ‘sense’ of the story from the design itself, but most will engage with a fusion of all of the above. With a background in journalism, architecture, and digital design, we expertly balance the different needs of all types of content and weave them into designs that allow visitors to engage in their own way.
